Waging War on Your Writing Demons
“What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” ― Maya Angelou, Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now
Stop me if you’ve heard this before (and by heard, I mean uttered it out loud or whispered it to yourself.)
“I’ll write more when X happens.”
Usually it is something like “I’ll write more when the kids are older.” Or “I’ll write more when I get more money, and have more time to focus on that.” Or “I’ll write more when I get better at writing.” Or “I’ll write more when the dumpster fire that is this current day-and-age gets better.”
Beginning to sound familiar?
There are so many things in our life that we put off until the perfect time when we’ll be able to get to them. For so many of these things, though, there is no perfect time.
They either happen or they don’t, and you miss out because you are waiting for life to happen to or for you.
Sounds gloomy, eh?
But fear not; I have good news and a process, promise!
The good news is that you can deal with this. It’s not beyond your control, you just need to know how.
